About Minster Bowls Club
Active in Minster since 1937, Minster Bowls Club can be found by the Recreation Ground in Thorne Road/Molineux Road.
Bowls is a game for all ages. It can be very competitive and energetic, but can also provide gentle exercise for those who are advancing in years. Mainly it gives the opportunity to meet people, and provide mental stimulus in a friendly environment, very important in this day and age.
In Minster, it provides sport all year, outside from April to September and indoors on three short mats from October to March.
The Pavilion houses a licensed bar and is available for hire with catering facilities.
MBC organises a number of social/entertainment events during the year, and Open Days where you can come and have a go. So there is an opportunity for non-players to socialise and meet new people.

So, why do we play Bowls? Here’s five reasons from the Bowls England website:
- Playing bowls is very doable. Whatever your physique, bowls is a sport for everybody and it will help improve your fitness levels and mental wellbeing.
- Bowls is not expensive. To get going you don’t need lots of new kit and clubs put on taster sessions for free. Even when you get the bug, a set of bowls and joining a club can cost as little as £90.
- After football, bowls has the second highest number of clubs in the country. With so many places to play, it’ll take no time at all to get to a bowls club close to your home.
- Compared to most sports, age and gender differences have less of an effect on a game of bowls, so it’s a perfect sport to spend time and enjoy a bit of friendly competition with your family.
- Bowls clubs are sociable places full of people looking to have fun, so bowls is a great way to relax, make new friends and feel part of your local community.
Events at Minster Bowls Club
Minster Bowls Club run a variety of social/entertainment events that are usually open to both members and non-members alike.
The club also hosts two ‘Open Days’ each year for non-bowlers to compete in teams playing for their own elected charity, so there are plenty of opportunities for even non-players to socialise and meet new people.
